This year we got there in time to see the Remote Sensing Lab (they close at noon). Owen was bored so Robert took him out, but Bridget and I spent a lot of time with the really huge and fancy monitor (one of those cool ones that you touch the screen to drag things) and the Google Earth Pro software they had. We didn't get any pictures, but it was really, really cool and the professor showing us the ropes was really nice.
We then went on to watch and play with the environmental sciences displays, pet animals, eat funnel cake (not me - bummer), watch Madagascar hissing cockroaches race (and win some milkweed bugs as a prize!), eat a pickle on a stick (me), put on rubber gloves and poke around in a dissected shark (Bridget), watch an estuary demonstration, jump in a bouncy house (the kids) and just generally have a lot of fun.
But none of that is what I'm going to post pictures about. Nope. This here was the highlight of the day.
The Egg Toss.
Bridget and I saw it last year and this time around she wanted in. So we got in line and got our eggs. Last year we saw them bouncing off the ground and thought they were hard boiled but when they handed me my egg this year, I told Bridget I was pretty sure it wasn't. Let's just be clear that she knew the danger and went ahead with it anyway.
So we tossed the egg back and forth a few times and it dropped but didn't break. Then they have you step back a few feet and try again. And again, and again. Finally, we were about 20 feet apart and I threw it to her. I tossed it pretty good. Too good.
Got her right in the middle of the forehead.
And the best part? Robert just snapped the camera when it hit.
Oh. My. Gawd. Please click on that picture to see it bigger, it's priceless. (that's her in the pink in case the exploding egg doesn't give it away - that big curly head on the right is me to give you an idea of how far apart we were)
Here's where I turn in my World's Best Mom award because I totally lost it. It was freaking hilarious. I ran over, laughing, and started wiping goo off her face. One of the organizers saw it and came over to ask if she was ok. Bridget of course was royally pissed. She marched off with such a look on her face and I'm following her, trying desperately to stop laughing but . . . come on!
She was a lot happier after we got home and she had a bath but she's told me she's not going to do it next year. She also got angry all over again when we were talking about it tonight and I started laughing again, so don't bring it up to her if you can't keep a straight face!

Laughing in my seat here! I don't think I would have been able to hold my laughter in either. Wow! What a perfect snap of the camera.
OMG! That's an unbelievable shot.
Laughter is the best medicine. I'm sitting at home with a stomach ailment and this made me feel better :-)
