Can someone tell me why I woke up with the name "Lillian Gish" in my head? I vaguely knew she was some sort of old time movie star. A little googling and I now know a lot more but why was I dreaming about her? Weird.

But, to go with the theme of beautiful people, the kids got haircuts today :-) Bridget does not like brushing her (already pretty short) hair and, um, let's just say you can tell. Yesterday I asked her if maybe she'd like to get a really short cut so she didn't have to brush. Her hair was already short, but I was talking SHORT. She thought this was a great idea. We were trying to explain to the hairdresser what we wanted and she kept showing us pictures of *not* short hair. Finally Bridget pointed to a picture on the wall of a boy and said that was what she wanted. The hairdresser sort of stuttered and said ok. But in the end, she didn't get what we meant. Bridget's hair is short in the back, but still longish on the sides and front. It's some fancy style that will obviously need STYLING to make work. Sigh. Bridget loves it though. She says she looks like a ballet dancer and has been combing it and staring in the mirror since we got home (don't worry - the combing will get boring in a few days and then we'll see what it really looks like). So she's happy and her problem area (the back of her head) is really short so I guess it's ok.

But then there's Owen. With Owen I said a bit shorter but "not too short". But he's a boy and boys need short hair, don't you know. Hmmmm, I see the problem here. I should have told her Bridget was a boy and Owen a girl. Sigh. At one point she got out the clippers and Owen protested and I told her no so she put them away. We left and Owen's little lip was trembling. He declared he HATES his new cut because it's too short. I assured him he could grow it out but meanwhile he suggested a wig. Yes, I'm serious, he said he wanted a wig. Um, it's not *that* short honey. I suggested a hat. We'll see. Maybe we can buy a wig at the Halloween store or something and he'll wear it for ten minutes and be happy.
