It's just a flesh wound

We went to a craft fair friday and two of the homeschoolers were selling duct tape swords they had made. They sold out pretty quickly and soon the park was filled with sword fighting kids, having a blast ;)

Unfortunately, Owen bought a small one and Bridget got the last large one. It made fighting each other rather difficult. No problem. We told Owen we'd make him one the size of Bridget's.

Of course, Robert used to be an SCA fighter, so he got a little carried away with the duct taping of the sword. He put a cross guard and a pomel on it (both made of foam) and then used red duct tape to deliniate an edge (this is apparently an SCA thing). Then Bridget wanted hers to have a cross guard and pomel so he set about retrofitting it. He was about to put the edge on hers but I pointed out that they'd look the same (that always turns out badly around here). So Bridget decided she wanted hers to have a spiral of red duct tape on it, sort of like a candy cane (though she keeps insisting it's NOT a candy cane - that's what it looks like to me).

Poor Robert. I love him dearly but he's a "stay within the lines" kind of guy. You could just see his brain screaming "it's not regulation!". Finally he sighed and went ahead and helped her put on the swirl.

At which point Owen said he liked Bridget's sword and Bridget liked the one with the edge so they switched. Ok, as long as everyone is happy.

Then Robert brought up his duct taped two headed hammer from the basement and the (not duct tape ;-) helm he made and we played around for awhile.

Oh, and the camera got reset and I didn't notice it apparently (sigh). These pictures are from yesterday, NOT February.
