I made a playdate with friend #1 for Friday the 23rd. Then, last week, I made a playdate with friend #2 for Friday the 23rd. Thankfully I realized the problem the same day and emailed her to reschedule. Then a few days later friend #3 asked if we had plans together for Friday the 23rd. I said I didn't think so but oh my, I think we did. I apologized profusely if we did (yeah, we did, didn't we?) but her family came down sick so they couldn't make it anyway. Then friend #4 sent out a general invitation to join her at a playplace . . . . on Friday the 23rd. I said I'd love to but we already had plans.
And how did it all turn out? Friend #1 just emailed me to say her daughter is sick and they have to cancel our playdate tomorrow. So now after all that scheduling and rescheduling and double and triple booking we have nothing to do tomorrow, LOL! I smell a library day ;-)
But you know what? The whole thing just made me feel so warm and fuzzy. I have friends. Many friends. And they like me and want to spend time with me :-) In high school I was the fat, shy, weird kid who had a total of three friends the first three years (and I only saw one of them outside of school). It wasn't til senior year when I took up drinking that suddenly I had people to hang with. Ahem.
And it's also great to see how many friends my kids have. Bridget already has more friends than I ever had in school. Friends who like her for who she is, not for what she can do for them or what she pretends to be. I get such a kick out of seeing how many kids enjoy her company. Not that I was ever as social as she is, but still, I guess I'm living vicariously through her just a bit. Even Owen, my little guy, has many friends. Kids who know him by name and enjoy playing and talking with him.
So I'm going to get a bit mushy for a minute but I just feel that we're all so wonderfully blessed and I am very thankful for the life we have and the good friends we're surrounded with. If any of you are reading this . . . . how about a playdate? :-D I'll try not to get mush on you ;-)
