Day One of NaNoWriMo . . . . not going well

So here I am blogging because *that* I can do, LOL! I got a few hundred words written but haven't seemed to find my groove yet. Maybe when the 4 year old is asleep. I seem to remember that was when I did most of my writing last year. Right now I'm sitting here listening to Disney music (great for singing along to - Kiss The Girl from The Little Mermaid is my current favorite!). The kids are in the other room doing something weird (but incredibly imaginative) with stuffed animals and couch cushions. I'm not asking.

We went to Barnes and Noble today to use Bridget's birthday gift certificates. She got three for a total of $55 and was generous enough to give a $20 one to her brother :-D He got two stuffed animals, she got three books and one stuffed animal and still has money left over on her cards. I bought two American Girl magazines. Bridget asked for a subscription months ago and I sent off the card but it must have gotten lost in the mail. I'll try again.

Today was Ask A Random Question And Get The Answer On The Internet day. (ok, I totally just made that up while we were walking the dog but try it! It's fun!).

Bridget's first question was "Do braces make metal detectors go off". The answer is no. Yes. Maybe. LOL! Most people say no because it's not the right kind of metal but some sites say maybe a more sensitive one would. Which doesn't make sense to me because if it's not the right kind of metal it's not the right kind of metal. But I don't know what braces are made of and maybe there are different types of metal in them in various amounts (it's been over 20 years since I thankfully said goodbye to mine). Well, when the kids get the braces they'll inevitably need, we'll test it out.

Question #2 (also from Bridget) was "How do you make perfume?". We found a few recipes but I don't think that's what she was looking for (or she discovered it wasn't as interesting as she thought) so we didn't dally long in perfume land.

I think there were a few more questions in there that I can't remember but eventually I decided to look up "How much do I weigh on the moon". I found this really site that calculates Your Weight On Other Worlds. (um, and some moons and stars). The kids got the scale down from the bathroom and they stood on it one at a time. Bridget got a kick out of how much she'd weigh on Jupiter (177 lbs) vs. the Moon (11 lbs). She walked around hunched over and sluggish, pretending she was walking in the heavy gravity of Jupiter.

Then I stood on the scale. Holy crap. I've gained five pounds this week. I'm not kidding. I blame the Halloween party, the two birthday parties and Halloween itself. Next thing I know we're having Gym Class for Mom (yes, I know, we're total unschoolers, I just like to make up fun titles sometimes - bear with me). I put on the "running music" (The End of the World As We Know it by R.E.M. and We Didn't Start The Fire by Billy Joel). I ran around the house with them while the songs played and oh my god, I almost died. I kept going in a really pathetic jog for the entire Billy Joel song which is like, 4 and a half hours long or something ridiculous. Afterward I drank some dandelion tea. I can't remember why I have it but it's probably healthy because it tastes really nasty.

The kids have also eaten really crappy this week so we're going to Eat a Rainbow and try and get a handle back on our nutrition. Bridget and I did this when she was younger once and it was a lot of fun :-D It's more for me really. I tend to get into ruts and serve the same veggies day after day after day if I'm not careful. This is just a fun way for me to keep track of what's out there. But the kids think it's fun too and are really excited :-D

And now to convince my son to go to sleep so I can maybe get a few hours of writing in before I crash.
