I dyed Bridget's hair yesterday! She's been wanting red for awhile but I didn't want bleach or anything scary on her little 8 year old head. We tried kool aid mixed with conditioner once (read about it on a website) and it itched her head so much she had to immediately wash it off. We hadn't found anything that looked good since then.

I was getting my hair cut the other day by a woman with purple curls and I told her my dilemma. She gave me (for free) some hair dye she had left over in her drawer (about 1/4 of a bottle). It's "stain" or something? It only lasts 4-6 weeks. Last night we did it and it turned out great! She looks so different though, it's hard getting used to. I thought her hair was beautiful the way it was, but she's happy.

Oh, and the hairdresser was funny. She told me that *her* mom would never have let her dye her hair at 8. She said when she asked to dye her hair (I gathered it was a later age) her mom freaked out and forbid it. She then told me that because of that, when she was old enough to do what she wanted she "went crazy" for awhile. She told me that parents really shouldn't be so strict like that with their kids because the kids respond by just going nuts when they are finally able. Uh, preaching to the choir here lady ;-)

Today Bridget made a language chart (I think that's what she called it?). I don't know how it started (I was off doing something else) but I walked in on her dad dictating 1-10 in Spanish while Bridget wrote it down on a big piece of paper. Then she wanted German. I can say them but couldn't remember some of the spellings so I got down my High School German textbook. Why didn't I turn it in at graduation? Uhhhhhhh, I don't know. Anyway, I found the numbers and she wrote them down and then we had some fun telling each other our ages in German. Then she wanted French but we didn't get farther than 5. We could have looked it up but we didn't, I'm not sure why. She then wrote this elaborate set of instructions on the bottom of the chart, explaining how to use it. Then she got distracted and went off to do something else, LOL! I had fun flipping through my German book though. I wonder whatever happened to Frau Fischer? She was a sweet lady.

The kids were checking out my antique camera collection today. All of them are in "well loved" condition so I have no problem with handing them to a 4 and 8 year old to play with. I opened one of them and exclaimed "hey, there's film in here!". My lovely husband rolled his eyes and said "yeah, you say that every time you open it". Pfffffft. So I have no memory, so sue me. I had exposed the film but what the heck, I took a bunch of pictures of the kids and finally finished the roll. I don't know, maybe it will come out anyway. It's worth a shot.

I also found myself having to explain to the kids what film was! I showed them what it looked like and explained how it worked. Ok, that was weird. I can deal with explaining albums to them or phones with cords or the fact that we didn't have home computers when we were their age but film? How can they not know what film is? That's just not right.
