Girl Scouts

Bridget's Girl Scout troop had their badge ceremony this past weekend. First each girl stood up to talk briefly about something they'd done that year. Then the new girls (including Bridget) were sworn in and got their pins. Then the badges for the year were handed out to the girls who earned them.

Then they served juice and girl scout cookies and the kids jumped rope and played ball :)

So that's pretty much it for the summer. There is one activity in July but otherwise, Girl Scouts is out til September. So how has it gone? She loves it. Totally. The girls are really nice and that's part of it, but I think it's more than that. She loves the vest, she loves getting badges and I think she even loves the rules. It's like a tiny bit of structure, a few hours a week and in that small dose she not only handles it, she enjoys it.

Of course I should point out this is a really cool troop. It's not like some I've heard of. They actually are going out and *doing* things. Bridget is definitely a *doing* girl. She really enjoyed the soup kitchen visit, the park clean-up and the airport tour. And of course, what's not to love about the roller blading night and pool party.

Plus of course it's run by her Grandma (my mom's domestic partner) who is a really high energy, kid loving woman :)

Oh, and Owen was amazingly patient and quiet during the ceremony. Here he is afterward, letting off steam.
