What? Am I late? Oh. Ok, Happy January 4th!
I like New Year's Eve. It's a nice, relaxing holiday after the week of family obligations that come before it. We started off with Chinese take out. Which, I admit, isn't that exciting for me now that I'm gluten-free but the kids were thrilled since we don't do take out much anymore. We watched Barnyard (which the kids enjoyed but I might go ahead and have a nice, feminist rant about one of these days) and Ratatoille (spelling?) which we all enjoyed.
During the movies we ate ice cream, gave each other manicures and pedicures (ok, just Bridget and I were interested - my toes are still bright pink and glittery), made some popcorn and played a lot of Blokus (one of my Christmas presents).
Then midnight hit. Bridget was thrilled as usual to watch the ball drop on the Times Square cam and toast each other with sparkling cider. Owen, on the other hand, declared "this is BORing". The ball drop he'd been waiting for all night was apparently not what he'd been expecting (maybe if a Transformer or a Power Ranger was involved it would have been more interesting ;-)
Then disaster struck. Not even 5 minutes after midnight Bridget's tooth fell out. She had been worrying it for an hour and was THRILLED. But Owen? Owen immediately started bawling about how unfair it is that he's never lost a tooth.
Keep in mind at this point he was 2 hours past his bedtime.
Robert went to comfort him and Owen kicked him so Robert got pissed off and walked into the other room.
Keep in mind at this point Robert was 3.5 hours past his bedtime.
So I took a crying Owen upstairs. Brushed his teeth (still crying). He went potty (still crying). And then we climed into bed and he nursed to sleep in about 2 minutes. Still crying.
But otherwise it was a great evening. I think maybe next year Owen and Robert can go to bed early and Bridget and I can stay up and have a girl's night with cider, manicures and movies ;-D
We did ok for a few days after that and now the sickies are striking. We have plenty of plans this upcoming week, starting with Grandma's (my mom's) birthday party here on Sunday (we're planning an ice cream sundae party!). So we have two days to get well. No pressure ;-)
Anyway, Happy New Year everyone! I think 2008 has a really good ring to it ;-)

We have some things in common!
Erik and I always get Chinese take-out on New Year's Eve. It's a pretty big tradition in Massachusetts (where Erik was born and raised in his early years). People order their food at, like, three in the afternoon and keep it warm in the oven till dinner to avoid the long wait at the restaurant by around five.
And the tooth thing... Teo is seriously starting to wonder when, if ever, he will lose a tooth. How old is Owen? Teo turned six in November and there is absolutely nothing going on in the loose tooth department.
And we love Blokus! A mathematician friend who gives us the best games, gave us travel Blokus a few years ago.
Sounds like a lovely New Year's Eve. We played a lot of Sorry! (the game getting the most play these days), had Chinese take-out (I don't even remember what the kids ate---probably their favorite take-out sushi for Aki and pizza for Teo) and hung out waiting for the ball to drop. Teo and I went to bed at 10:30 and Aki followed us in at 11:15 :-)
