Date Night

Not sure what else to call it ;-) The other week I decided it would be fun to split up the kids and go out for some one on one time. A luxury I have with two parents, two kids. The math works out well ;-)

Last night was our second date night. Last week Robert and Bridget went out for ice cream downtown and Owen and I went out for ice cream at the place near our house. This time we switched.

Robert and Owen walked to the library to get a Power Ranger video Owen wanted. (I like Power Rangers. I get that they are cheesy, sure, but I think they are cool.) I'm told they had a good time with Owen being able to chat without being interrupted. That doesn't happen often ;-)

Meanwhile, Bridget and I walked downtown to a coffee shop I've only been in once before. It's one of those jazzy places with couches and stuffed chairs, all different and looking like they were purchased from a garage sale. A big mural of Starry Night is painted on one wall and Bridget chose to sit right under it. We ordered hot chocolates for us and a brownie ice cream thing for her (I ate some of the whipped cream off the top). We talked all the way there, sat and chatted half an hour in the shop and then talked all the way home and the only thing I can remember is the painting. She told me how Starry Night was available as a decorative painting in Club Penguin (you play games and earn coins to buy things like decorations for your penguin's house). She described another Club Penguin painting to me and I told her I'd look at it when we got home and see who it was imitating (it was Andy Warhol).

We're going to try and do this every week :-) Nothing fancy, just going out somewhere we can walk to. The library, ice cream, hot chocolate. Owen requested pizza next time. Just some place we can walk to, holding hands, and then sit and chat for awhile before going home.

We had fun :-D

What a great idea! Yesterday we were in Target, and Adrian (DH) took Llani with him to another store. It was just me and Zeke in Target, and that boy was in the best mood! My kids get along great with each other, but I think sometimes they need one-on-one time with a parent. I don't think of that enough.

My kids get along ok but when they're together, poor Owen rarely gets to finish a sentence :) His sister talks a mile a minute (does she breathe?) AND Owen stutters a bit, so the poor kid just doesn't get to talk. The date night has been good for that too ;-)
