Happy New Year!

Well, first of all, for those who have a clue about NYC, I apparently meant Port Authority, not Grand Central Station. I'm not a city person so forgive my cluelessness ;-)

Our trip was really nice! I talked Robert into playing tourist (he only rolled his eyes once that I saw). Instead of rushing to get to where we were going, we took our time in Port Authority, checking out all the cool art.

There's an "audio kinetic sculpture" there that's really cool. It's this huge thing full of tracks, screws, bowls, chimes and a bunch of what look like billiard balls just endlessly moving through it. It's very cool and I highly recommend checking it out if you ever find yourself in Port Authority.
There's also lots of pretty (and large!) art works on the walls and mosaics in some of the subways. We liked these huge marbles at the Port Authority station.

The subway station at the museum has a lot of cool stuff too like mosaics of animals and casts of dinosaur fossils on the walls and styalized animals on the floors. I enjoyed taking our time there! Here's a wall with an ocean theme. Yes, this a subway station! Too bad they can't all look like this!

So, about two hours after we left home, we finally arrived at the American Museum of Natural History. First we checked out the hall of North American mammals (I think - I'm really bad with names!). And then as usual we had to see the whale. Bridget really enjoys that but Owen thinks it's scary. We then headed out to the space exhbit (the names are escaping me right now) and at some point we stopped at the Christmas tree decorated with origami ornaments they had set up (I think they took it down today though).

And of course you can't go to the Museum of Natural History without seeing the dinosaur fossils. We spent a lot of time there with Bridget sketching and taking notes but unfortunately, at that point we had been in the museum three hours and Owen was beginning to melt so we didn't get to see them all. It wasn't until after we left that I realized I didn't get to see the hall of minerals which is my favorite.

So finally we headed home. We didn't rush on the way out of the city either so at one point (because we didn't run for the bus) we found ourselves with a bit of time on our hands. We stepped out onto 42nd street. I had totally forgotten it was New Year's Eve and was wondering why there were such huge crowds and so many police officers, LOL!

Of course that night we were exhausted. Robert was looking awful and I made him go to bed around 10 (he didn't protest too much). Owen started to melt around 11 so I lay him down to nurse and he was out within minutes. Only Bridget and I were up to watch the ball drop and drink our sparkling apple cider. Happy 2007 to everyone :-)
